Unacceptable lack of knowledge by Commissioner Hahn

CIVIL - Center for Freedom believes that the European Neighborhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations Commissioner Johannes Hahn, with his statement in Washington, displayed an unacceptable level of lack of knowledge about the manners in which electoral processes are conducted in the country. We call upon the Commissioner Hahn to read the reports from the electoral observation by OSCE/ODIHR missions in 2013 and 2014, as well as the reports of CIVIL.

Local elections in 2013 and presidential and early parliamentary elections in 2014 were marked by massive electoral manipulation, which was accompanied by a complete misuse of state and public resources and administration, structural violence, corruption of the electoral body, pressures and intimidation at all levels and in all spheres. The Voters Register is in a catastrophic condition and was a tool in the hands of the parties in power to manipulate and have a decisive impact on the elections results in 2013 and 2014.

Myriad phantom voters were part of the electoral fraud. Nonexistent voters and nonexistent entrances to buildings, whole buildings and residential blocks that are nonexistent are located in the voters list. CIVIL and independent media revealed a series of scandals that point to illegal issuance of personal documents by the Ministry of Interior. These are just some of the serious electoral irregularities in the country, which were confirmed also by the wiretapped conversations revealed the opposition from the beginning of this year.

We urge Commissioner Hahn to rethink his views and consult a wider circle of independent sources of information at national and international level.
