FREE AND NONVIOLENT ELECTIONS 2013

START OF THE FREE AND NONVIOLENT ELECTIONS PROJECT

Civil – Center for Freedom announces the start of the Free and Nonviolent Elections 2013 Project with a substantial financial support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The project will be implemented at a national level and will include awareness-raising campaign on electoral culture and intensive fieldwork aimed at prevention from electoral irregularities, violence and gun violence throughout the whole elections process and post-elections period.

The Free and Nonviolent Elections project is particularly important in regards to the current political situation in the country and the deep political crisis which culminated with the events on December 24. It will contribute to restoration of democracy and rule of law, and respect for human rights and freedoms in the country.

At local level, Civil and partner organizations will work through nine regional centers in which Prevention Working Groups will be established. Activities will include working with political parties, NGOs, media, police and other institutions at local and national level.

At the very beginning of the project implementation, Civil is also supported by the Forum Civil Peace Service (Forum ZFD), which will work together with local organizations in Kichevo in partnership with Civil.

Civil is still fund-raising for financial support in order to execute the project plan in its entirety.
