How many more times should Commissioner Hahn intervene?

The tricks and partial acceptance of the team of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, delays and ignoring the agreed deadlines for reaching an agreement on the Electoral code, Law on media, establishing an Inquiry Committee in the Parliament on the contents of the wiretapped conversations, as well as other significant reforms that were agreed - are the reasons that European Commissioner Johannes Hahn is paying another visit to Skopje.

The leaders of the four largest parties have put their signatures twice on the Agreements from Przino with which, among other things, minimum conditions should be created for free, fair and democratic elections on April 24, 2016. However, the agreement is persistently breached.

The violation of this agreement is degrading, unprincipled and unacceptable. Instead of expressing commitments towards the fulfilment of the Agreement for overcoming the political crisis, to which they have put their double signature, part of the political parties have only intensified their campaigns through employment of party soldiers and abuses of power. They have proved, from the very beginning of the process of implementing the agreements of June 2 and July 15, that they would focus the energy towards the obstruction of the agreements.

Whatever the outcome may be from the meetings that Hahn will have today with the party leaders, we are convinced that this will not be his last visit of persuasion towards respect of what has been agreed and signed. It is certain that the obstructions will continue.

Therefore, CIVIL - Center for Freedom, remains firm to the demands for which an announcement was made on October 13. According to CIVIL, the date of April 24, 2016 should not be the final date for holding early parliamentary elections, but rather have elections postponed for a month. However, this should not delay the other agreed steps, among which is the resignation of Nikola Gruevski. We consider that Gruevski is the most responsible for the violation of the agreement and the delays in its implementation, which dramatically reduces the period required to implement the reforms that will obtain minimum conditions for free elections.
