Could there be elections this autumn?

Recently, there have been more frequent statements from the two largest parties in the country, VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM, that parliamentary elections will be held this autumn. It is still unclear how the elections will be held, because according to the head of the State Election Commission Aleksandar Cicakovski, the Voters Register has not been revised.

CIVIL – Center for Freedom remains at its decisive position that the Przino Agreement is not fully implemented and that there are still no conditions for holding fair and democratic elections.

The leader of the largest opposition party Zoran Zaev, stated that conditions for fair elections could be created after the end of the summer.

“I believe that the Przino Agreement can be restored by the Government with its ministers, which would prepare the elections. A government for national salvation could be established, or an expert government could be established, or a reform government or something similar. Only fair and credible elections can put an end to the crisis. This summer will be a period in which many significant things will take place in the process of resolving the crisis, while early parliamentary elections could be held in October or no later than the second half of March next year, along with the regular local elections”.

The President of VMRO-DPMNE Nikola Gruevski, in his address at the 25th anniversary of the Youth Forces, stressed that they are prepared to participate in the elections at any time, because his party will win.

“With this approach of ours, and with this kind of SDSM, VMRO-DPMNE is a sure winner in the next elections, whenever they take place. The sooner the better, in order to reduce damages to the economy, which in fact directly harm the people, the unemployed, the poor, the companies and the entire society. Our opponents will get their answer from the citizens at the next elections. The later they are held, the greater the punishment will be for SDSM, due to its politics and the damages they have inflicted upon all the citizens. In the next 4 or 10 months, or whenever they may take place, Macedonia will put an end to this political game and political persecution. There will be elections, and VMRO-DPMNE will once again gain the confidence of the people, together with the Union of Youth Forces, as one of our key pillars”, stressed Gruevski.

While Gruevski and Zaev are competing with statements on – who has greater confidence among the people and who will win at the following elections, the question remains – who, how and when will conditions for holding democratic, fair and credible elections in Macedonia finally be created?

CIVIL – Center for Freedom remains at its decisive position that the Przino Agreement is not fully implemented and that there are still no conditions for holding fair and democratic elections! Because, despite the Voters Register, in which there is still chaos, the media continue to be under the strict control of the ruling party, while in the hijacked state institutions the government has complete control over employees, who are victims of unparalleled pressures.
